I'm one of four co-founders of a new advocacy organization on the North Shore of Vancouver. It's called Better North Shore and you can find us here: www.BetterNorthShore.caWe're focused on three core areas:
We know that our elected councils’ values are most clearly expressed in their budgets, so we monitor the municipal budgeting process and spending priorities. We believe that the Official Community Plans (OCPs), drafted over years and with the input of thousands of North Shore residents, should serve as to-do lists for councils and mayors to deliver on without delay.
- climate change
- transportation options
- housing options
We believe that electing municipal councillors and mayors who support policies that increase housing supply, encourage options for transportation and mitigate or respond to climate change is essential and, ultimately, our goal in 2026.
We attend council meetings and advocate through letters and meetings. We hope to become an important forum for thoughtful discussion of municipal affairs on the North Shore.
Finally, we focus on municipal election turnouts, which are extremely low, in the 20% to 30% range. Given that municipal government has a tremendous impact on our day-to-day lives, we aim to increase voter turnout across the North Shore in the 2026 municipal elections.
